Can I commence a course immediately ?
You can start the college courses at any time as they are correspondence courses which can be completed at home. The college has a number of course package discounts where various courses are purchased all together as a combined package rather than separately. See the course fees page for the course packages available.

Students can complete all courses by correspondence at home, either in Australia or overseas, and will have no trouble doing this as the courses are easy to work through.

How long will the MYOB courses take to complete ?
Students have different skill levels but best if you allow approximately 80 hours to complete the three correspondence course workbooks. Assignment and assessment activities timeframe are in addition to the estimated timeframe and can vary based on the student's competency and skill levels.

Students have up to 16 weeks to complete the course workbooks and assignments but can complete them much quicker than the 16 weeks if so desired. Students can structure the completion of the courses to suit their particular situation. The college does grant extensions to the completion timeframe where required.

Benefits of choosing to study MYOB with the Accounting College ?
The Accounting College is a registered training organisation and therefore has been through an accreditation process to conduct quality training and provide nationally recognised qualifications. This is important to ensure that employers recognise your qualification. The MYOB series of courses are used to achieve qualifications in nationally recognised competency units which form part of the Australian Quality Training Framework.

A tutor of the college is there to assist you in your studies and the tutor is a qualified Accountant and Accredited Trainer. Fast unlimited free email support is provided throughout all courses. If a problem cannot be solved by email, which is rare, then phone support is provided to solve the problem. The courses are however easy to work through.

The college only uses completely up to date software versions and workbooks. The current version of MYOB
is Version 18. It is important to be trained on the latest version as most employers upgrade the software when
a new version is released. This is also essential for those employers who use the MYOB Payroll facility as it has
income tax scales that are always current.


How do the courses work ?
Students are sent course workbooks and the MYOB student edition test drive software to work through. Students complete an assignment (not exam) at the completion of each course and send the assignment to the college for assessment.

Do I get support throughout the courses ?
Yes, all college courses offer unlimited free email support. This support deals with your enquiries very quickly. If a problem cannot be solved by email then phone support will be made available to solve the problem. You will however find the courses easy to work through as the courses are very much a step by step process.

What is the Quick Reference Guide ?
The Quick Reference Guide contains MYOB procedures that can be quickly looked up to operate the MYOB software and is published exclusively by The Accounting College and can only be purchased by college students. The guide is in addition to the college workbooks.

The Quick Reference Guide includes quick step by step procedures of MYOB operations. It is an excellent quick reminder publication for a student once the student has completed the MYOB series of courses.

Do I have to sit an Exam ?
No, students work through the courses and complete a number of assignments (not exams). The assignments are then submitted to the college for competency based assessment.

The assessor will provide you with feedback in relation to your assignments. If the assessor, after assessing your assignment, considers you have not understood a particular concept then you may be asked to do some more work in that particular area but you will be assisted until you attain that competency. The courses are structured using
a step by step approach and are easy to understand.

How long will it take to send out the courses after payment has been made ?
The college prides itself on its efficient service at all times. Courses are mailed by express post the next business day after booking and course fee payment. Therefore, students can commence courses very quickly after booking and paying the course fee.

Do I get a Certificate at the completion of the courses ?
Three statements of attainment are issued upon successful completion of the three MYOB courses. On all other courses an Accounting College certificate is issued. The college also asks that you provide feedback upon completion of the MYOB courses. A learner questionaire is supplied with the course material.

What are my options after completing the MYOB courses?
Successful completion of the three MYOB courses means that you will receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment from the college. When seeking employment or changing career the student will be able to submit this statement of attainment to the prospective employer.

Can I do the courses if English is not my first language ?
Yes, our courses are very easy to work through and the college guarantees assistance right throughout the courses. If the college considers you are having difficulty in relation to language and interpretation of the college work material then it may, in addition to email support, grant you free phone support. This will be determined at the time of the situation arising. If the situation cannot be solved then the college will assist you in locating a support agency that can assist.

Does the college assist with support services for numeracy or literacy issues ?
Should the college find that you are having difficulty in relation to numeracy or literacy issues whilst using the college course material then in addition to email support the college may grant you free phone support. If the situation cannot be solved then the college will assist you in locating a support agency that can assist.

Does the college assist with extra support services if I have a disability?
Yes, the college not only provides email support but if you have a disability then the college also provides
free phone support. The level of support will be determined at the time of progressing through your studies. If necessary the college will also provide assistance in locating a support agency if it is determined that an agency
is required.

Can I extend my studies further on completion of the courses ?
Yes, you can go on and do an entire certificate level at TAFE or another registered training organisation (subject to enrolment acceptance by that organisation). The competency units completed with the college, resulting in a statements of attainment being issued, can be used as credits towards the certificate providing that the unit or units are part of the certificate undertaken.

Does the college recognise prior learning?
Yes, the college does recognise prior learning and this process is explained in the RPL section at the bottom of this page.

Can I prepare a Business Activity Statement (BAS)?
If you are working for an employer as an employee you can prepare the BAS under the direction of the employer. It is the employer who is responsible for the BAS. However, if you are conducting or considering setting up a bookkeeping business then restrictions apply as to whether you can prepare a BAS. Please visit the ATO website at www.ato.gov.au and type into the search area the words 'Bookkeeper BAS' to view the current legislation in relation to BAS preparation. It is very important that you are qualified and comply with current legislation in relation to BAS related work or providing BAS advice to clients.

Are courses for student use only ?
Yes, the courses offered and course fees are only for personal enrolment by a student and are not for use by a business, organisation or company.

The college does not offer its courses or services to businesses, organisations or companies. However, the college will accept a payment made on behalf of a student from a business, organisation or company but the college responsibility, assistance and supply of course material will be exclusively with the student only and are subject to the college terms and conditions.

Can I book and pay for courses online ?
Yes, you can book courses online and pay by credit card by clicking on the Booking Options page on this website. Alternatively, courses can also be booked by phoning the college on 1300 133 106.

Can I pay directly at the bank ?
Students can also pay at any Westpac branch by using the college banking details. Contact the college by email or phone to obtain the banking details. However please make sure you enrol first by phoning 1300 133 106 or by completing the details requested on the booking options page.

Access & Equity Principles Applied

The Accounting College is committed to integrating Access and Equity principles within all our services that we provide to our clients. All staff recognise the rights of students and provide information, advice and support that is consistent with our Core Business Values and this Code of Practice.

Regardless of cultural background, gender, sexuality, disability or age you have the right to study in an environment that is free from discrimination and harassment and be treated in a fair and considerate manner while you are studying with us.

If, at any time, you feel that we are not abiding by our Code of Practice then report your complaints or grievance to a supervisor/trainer or equity officer, or complete our complaints and grievance form.

Access & Equity - Disability

Should a student have a disability in some way then the college will assist the student in undertaking a correspondence course.

In the event that the college cannot fulfill the needs of the student then it will offer to provide assistance by contacting support services that may be able to assist.

Prior to the course the CEO will determine the best approach to train the disabled student and to include the student within the group training.

The Chief Executive Officer will personally become involved in any special needs cases.

We provide and support the following services within our Code of Practice:

  • Student selection, enrolment & induction / orientation procedures

Student selection is derived from the outcomes of our learning & assessment strategies. We conduct induction and orientation sessions for staff at our premises and for students at our phone interview.

All students can complete our courses by correspondence as the courses are designed for beginners.

  • Continuing Enrolment

It is a requirement of enrolment that a student actively participates in the MYOB correspondence courses which are used as a resource tool to attain competency units. As a minimum requirement the student must complete the MYOB Basics assignment and forward it to the college for assessment within the course completion timeframe as this is the evidence used to satisfy the minumum requirement. After the minimum requirement has been met then two additional MYOB correspondence courses (intermediate and advanced) are required to be completed successfully for the issuing of statements of attainment.

Failure to meet the minimum requirement, within the course completion timeframe or extended timeframe if granted, of completing and submitting the MYOB Basics Assignment for assessment will result in the enrolment being automatically forfeited and the student will no longer be enrolled. In accordance with the college refund policy, as stated on the website terms and conditions page, no course fee refund is provided should this occur.

We provide and support the following services within our Code of Practice:

  • Provision for language, literacy & numeracy assessment

We provide provisions for language, literacy and numeracy assessment on request. We also monitor the needs of our client's language, literacy and numeracy skills through our enrolment form survey and phone discussions.

All students can attend the college courses or undertake the correspondence courses as no previous gained computer language, literacy, numeracy skills are necessary and no pre-requisites exist for the course.

At the time of booking a course a student should advise if they have a problem in relation to:

- Understanding English

- Reading / Writing

- Basic Mathematical Calculations

The college will assist that the college cannot solve the specific problem then the college will assist the student by contacting support organisations that mat be able to assist.

  • Student support

Most of our clients are in-house students and therefore very little external support is required. However the support we offer includes: (i) recognised prior learning ; (ii) options in learning ; (iii) guidance via our Equity Officer ; (iv) one on one tutoring where required at the course ; (v) pre-course interviews ; (vi) training needs analysis ; (vii) reference manuals ; (viii) information on our web-site

We provide and support the following services within our Code of Practice.

  • Personal record access

Students can have access to their personal records by contacting the college by phone or in writing, but must at all times, be able to provide proof of identity before any information will be released. Students must provide in writing authorisation for the college to issue any information to a third party if requested.

If a request is made in writing, from the student or ex-student, to issue a replacement statement of attainment/s then the college will do so after verifying and checking its records.

The college has a responsibilty to the student only and reserves the right to not issue student records to a third party if it so chooses.

  • Flexible learning and assessment procedures

Flexible learning and assessment procedures are documented within our assessment kit and form part of our learning and assessment strategies.

The college provides flexible alternatives by offering correspondence courses with email support. Free email support is available to all students during any of our courses.

Assessment procedures to ensure competency are based on assignments completed by the student and submitted to the college. All students are advised of the assessment criteria at the beginning of a course.

We provide and support the following services within our Code of Practice:

  • Welfare and guidance services

We will endeavour to provide welfare and guidance to all students. This includes (i) occupational health and safety; (ii) review of payment schedules when requested (iii) learning pathways and possible RPL & RCC opportunities; (iv) provision for special learning needs; (v) provision for special cultural and religious needs; and (vi) provision for special dietary needs.

An equity officer of the college has been appointed to deal specifically with welfare and guidance services. Should a student have a problem in this area then the college would be happy to assist as much as it can or refer the student to a support group that can assist.

  • Appeals, complaints and grievance procedures

We have a documented procedure that covers any appeals, complaints or grievances. Should you have an appeal, complaint or grievance contact the designated person for more detailed information. Also see the the Grievance and Complaints procedures as detailed under those headings below.

We deal with grievances, complaints and appeals in a prompt manner and have established procedures as follows:

* Grievances, complaints and appeals must be recorded in writing.

* Matters concerning a grievance, complaint or appeal will be dealt with by an independent person or if necessary by a independent panel.

Grievance and Complaints Procedure

In the event of a grievance or complaint the student should write, by email or letter, directly to the chief executive officer. A student making a complaint must do so in writing within 7 days of the complaint issue arising. The college will respond in a prompt manner and within 7 days of receiving the complaint in writing. The college will do everything it can, within its control, to resolve the complaint. All complaints are dealt with directly by the Chief Executive Officer of the college.

Should the complaint end up being unresolved then the college will advise the student of any external assistance that may be able to assist the student such as the Department of Fair Trading or another relevant government department.

Disciplinary Procedure

The college Chief Executive Officer will determine if disciplinary action is required in relation to a student or staff member after thoroughly investigating a complaint. Any disciplinary action is subject to an appeal if the student or staff member appeals the action.

Under no circumstances will the college accept rude or unprofessional emails either issued by staff or received from students.

Assessment Appeals Process

The Chief Executive Officer will oversee any Appeals process and will make sure an independent person or body deals with the appeal. A student appealing an assessment must do so in writing within 30 days by lodging a letter with the college setting out his/her reasons for the appeals application.

The college will respond within 14 days of the outcome of the appeal. Reasons for the decision made in relation to the appeal will also be provided to the student.

Should the appeal end up being unresolved then the college will advise the student of any external assistance that may be available to assist the student such as the Department of Fair Trading or another relevant government department.

We provide and support the following services within our Code of Practice:

  • Staff responsibilities for Access and Equity issues

At the Accounting College, we have appointed our Administration Manager as student Equity Officer, the complete responsibilities are listed within the Administration Manger's Duty Statement. The position’s main objective is to ensure all staff act in accordance with our Code of Practice and all students are made aware of their rights and responsibilities.

The college is very much aware of its responsibilities in relation to Access and Equity issues. Our courses are designed for both men and women.

- We conduct our courses with full awareness that people from different cultures may attend.

- We encourage students of any age or race to partake in the course. The wealth of experience in our group activities certainly assists within these activities.

- The college will not tolerate any form of discrimination or harrasment of students and ensures that all students conduct their studies in an enjoyable atmosphere.

  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) arrangements

RPL is offered to all applicants on enrolment. All students should read and understand the following prior to seeking an exemption for Recognised Prior Learning.

The process within the college is structured to minimise time and cost to applicants. The applicant will be queried at the time of applying for RPL and advised that only MYOB basics training is permitted to be claimed as an exemption. Intermediate and Advanced levels must be undertaken unless the college considers, after review, that the applicant has the credentials in either qualifications and/or experience to satisfy a further exemption.

Applicants will be permitted to participate in the Intermediate course if they lodge correct documentation and once reviewed shows they have the relevant experience and knowledge. Applicants will also have to provide competent answers and use the MYOB software during a phone interview describing steps required on random questions asked by the assessor.

At the phone interview stage, prior to enrolment, they will be informed that they will encounter problems with the intermediate and advanced levels if they have or do not have an understanding of MYOB Basics training. A check will be made during the Intermediate course in relation to the exemption of the Basics course to ensure that basics activities are being performed correctly.

Should a student have claimed an exemption on basics training and found not to have such skills then that student will be requested to undertake and pay for the basics course and will not be permitted to continue in the program until that basics training has been completed.

Mutual Recognition Policy

The Accounting College recognises Qualifications and Statements of Attainments that are issued by other Registered Training Organisations where they are relevant to the course the student is about to undertake.

The college recognises that prior learning can be gained through a person undertaking training, on the job
experience and even life experience.
