Studying With The Accounting College
The college is committed to offering quality training services and provides comprehensive training using the MYOB software. The scope of the training fits with what employers are seeking. To ensure the highest quality training
the student is trained by an Accountant / Accredited trainer of the college. The Principal of the college is a
Fellow of the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA).

Does the college have flexible commencement dates ?
Yes, students have the choice of commencing courses immediately or can book and pay for course packages and defer the commencement date anytime up until 28th February, 2012. The course material will still be mailed out the next business day no matter what option is selected.

The option to select Defer or Start Today is shown on the Booking Options page and is completed when booking
and paying the course fee. See the Deferral and the Start Today information below.

Can I Defer the courses and start at a later time ?
Yes, students are permitted to purchase any course package and either start immediately or Defer the commencement date to anytime up until 28 February 2012. When booking and paying on the Booking Options
page write the deferral date you would prefer.

Can I Start the MYOB Course Today?
Yes, you can Start Today. The MYOB student software link is emailed within approximately 90 minutes after booking and paying the course fee. The MYOB Basics workbook is also provided at the same time so you can get started on the course immediately. The "Getting Started with MYOB" online video link is also provided together with the MYOB Quick Reference Guide. A hard copy of the MYOB Basics workbook will also be mailed by express post with the MYOB Intermediate and Advanced course workbooks and material.

The Start Today option applies to any course package selected which includes the MYOB Basics course and is available 8.30am to 6.00pm Monday to Saturday. Outside these hours then the course material to get started is emailed the next business day.

Students also have the option of starting when they receive the course material and student software through the mail rather than by email.

Can I Fast Track the study timeframe?
Yes, students are allowed up to 30 weeks (based on part time study) to complete the three MYOB courses or can Fast Track and complete in 3 to 4 weeks (full time study). This can be decided when the course material is received. Alternatively, an extension can also be granted if required.

Is it possible to undertake the MYOB courses using a Macintosh computer ?
Yes, the MYOB student edition software that is supplied has a number of programs so the student can install the software on either
a computer with a Windows operating system or a Macintosh computer.

Please note that the Quickbooks student edition software is for Windows users only and not available in Mac format.

How do the courses work ?
After downloading or installing the MYOB student software the student commences working through the MYOB Basics workbook. An assignment (not exam) is completed at the end of each course. The assignment can be emailed to the college for assessment. Upon assessment of the assignment the college will provide feedback.

Upon completion of the MYOB Basics course the MYOB Intermediate course can be commenced using the MYOB Student Edition software that is also provided in CD format to the student.


Does the college provide Nationally Recognised Training ?
The college provides accredited nationally recognised Statements of Attainment upon completion of the
three MYOB correspondence courses. This also applies to students undertaking the Maintain Financial Records correspondence course. The Nationally Recognised Training logo appears on the Statement of Attainment.

An Accounting College certificate is issued for all other courses.

How long will the MYOB courses take to complete ?
Students have different skill levels but best if you allow approximately 80 to 90 hours to complete the three MYOB course workbooks. The same approximate completion time applies to the Maintain Financial Records course.

What is the timeframe for completion of the three MYOB courses ?
The college understands that some students may want to complete the three MYOB correspondence courses quickly. The courses are being worked on at the student's own pace so courses can be completed quickly
if required (see Fast Track above).

Student's working on completing the courses part time have up to 26 weeks from the enrolment date. Part time is approximately 4 hours per week completed at home. The courses can be finished sooner if that suits the student's requirements.


How long will it take to send out the courses after payment has been made ?
The college prides itself on its efficient service at all times. The courses can be commenced immediately through the Start Today option or the courses can be mailed by express post the next business day if the student prefers that option. A hard copy of the MYOB Basics workbook together with the Intermediate and Advanced workbooks is also mailed.

Is a Certificate issued at the completion of the courses ?
A Statement of Attainment is issued upon successful completion of the three MYOB courses for the unit - Set Up and Operate a Computerised Accounting System which is part of Certificate IV in Bookkeeping.

Student's undertaking the competency unit - Maintain Financial Records are issued with a Statement of Attainment upon completion of the competency unit which is part of Certificate III in Business.

An Accounting College certificate is issued for all other courses.

Do I have to sit an Exam ?
No, students work through the courses and complete an assignment (not exam) at the end of each course. The assignment is then submitted to the college for assessment.

After assessing your assignment the trainer will consider whether you have understood the concepts involved.
If not, then you may be asked to do some more work in that particular area but you will be assisted until you attain that skill. At the end of all of the course assignments an additional short assessment process is done to finalise the training.

Do I get support throughout the courses ?
Yes, all college courses offer unlimited free email support. This support deals with your enquiries very quickly.
If a problem cannot be solved by email then phone support will be made available to solve the problem. You will however find the courses easy to work through as the courses are very much a step by step process.

What are my options after completing the MYOB courses?
Successful completion of the MYOB courses or Level 1 and 2 of Maintain Financial Records means that you will receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment from the college. When seeking employment or changing career then the student will be able to submit the Statement of Attainment to the prospective employer. A separate Accounting College Certificate is also issued.

Can I do the courses if English is not my first language ?
Yes, our courses are very easy to work through and the college guarantees assistance right throughout the courses.

Does the college recognise prior learning?
Yes, the college does recognise prior learning and this process is explained in the RPL section at the bottom of this page.

Can I prepare a Business Activity Statement (BAS)?
If you are working for an employer as an employee you can prepare the BAS under the direction of the employer. It is the employer who is responsible for the BAS. However, if you are looking to become a self employed bookkeeper then separate qualifications are required and the college courses are not provided for that purpose.

How can courses be booked ?
Yes, you can book courses by phoning the college on 1300 133 106 and pay by credit card (mastercard or visa).

Can I pay directly at the bank ?
Students can also pay at any Westpac branch by using the college banking details. Contact the college by email or phone to obtain the banking details. However please make sure you enrol first by phoning 1300 133 106.

Access & Equity Principles Applied

The Accounting College is committed to integrating Access and Equity principles within all our services that we provide to our clients. All staff recognise the rights of students and provide information, advice and support that is consistent with our Core Business Values and this Code of Practice.

Regardless of cultural background, gender, sexuality, disability or age you have the right to study in an environment that is free from discrimination and harassment and be treated in a fair and considerate manner while you are studying with us.

If, at any time, you feel that we are not abiding by our Code of Practice then report your complaints or grievance to a supervisor/trainer or equity officer, or complete our complaints and grievance form.

Access & Equity - Disability

Should a student have a disability in some way then the college will assist the student in undertaking a correspondence course.

In the event that the college cannot fulfill the needs of the student then it will offer to provide assistance by contacting support services that may be able to assist.

Prior to the course the CEO will determine the best approach to train the disabled student and to include the student within the group training.

The Chief Executive Officer will personally become involved in any special needs cases.

Student selection is derived from the outcomes of our learning & assessment strategies. We conduct induction and orientation sessions for staff at our premises and for students at our phone interview.

All students can complete our courses by correspondence as the courses are designed for beginners.

We provide and support the following services within our Code of Practice:

  • Provision for language, literacy & numeracy assessment

We provide provisions for language, literacy and numeracy assessment on request. We also monitor the needs of our client's language, literacy and numeracy skills through our enrolment form survey and phone discussions.

All students can attend the college courses or undertake the correspondence courses as no previous gained computer language, literacy, numeracy skills are necessary and no pre-requisites exist for the course.

At the time of booking a course a student should advise if they have a problem in relation to:

- Understanding English

- Reading / Writing

- Basic Mathematical Calculations

The college will assist that the college cannot solve the specific problem then the college will assist the student by contacting support organisations that mat be able to assist.

  • Student support

Most of our clients are in-house students and therefore very little external support is required. However the support we offer includes: (i) recognised prior learning ; (ii) options in learning ; (iii) guidance via our Equity Officer ; (iv) one on one tutoring where required at the course ; (v) pre-course interviews ; (vi) training needs analysis ; (vii) reference manuals ; (viii) information on our web-site

We provide and support the following services within our Code of Practice.

  • Personal record access

Students can have access to their personal records by contacting the college by phone or in writing, but must at all times, be able to provide proof of identity before any information will be released. Students must provide in writing authorisation for the college to issue any information to a third party if requested. The student records that the college will provide is a Transcript of Academic Record only.

The college has a responsibilty to the student only and reserves the right to not issue student records to a third party if it so chooses.

  • Flexible learning and assessment procedures

Flexible learning and assessment procedures are documented within our assessment kit and form part of our learning and assessment strategies.

The college provides flexible alternatives by offering correspondence courses with email support. Free email support is available to all students during any of our courses.

Assessment procedures to ensure competency are based on assignments completed by the student and submitted to the college. All students are advised of the assessment criteria at the beginning of a course.

We provide and support the following services within our Code of Practice:

  • Welfare and guidance services

We will endeavour to provide welfare and guidance to all students. This includes (i) occupational health and safety; (ii) review of payment schedules when requested (iii) learning pathways and possible RPL & RCC opportunities; (iv) provision for special learning needs; (v) provision for special cultural and religious needs; and (vi) provision for special dietary needs.

An equity officer of the college has been appointed to deal specifically with welfare and guidance services. Should a student have a problem in this area then the college would be happy to assist as much as it can or refer the student to a support group that can assist.

  • Appeals, complaints and grievance procedures

We have a documented procedure that covers any appeals, complaints or grievances. Should a student or
ex student have an appeal, complaint or grievance contact the designated person for more detailed information.

We deal with grievances, complaints and appeals in a prompt manner and have established procedures as follows:

* Grievances, complaints and appeals must be recorded in writing.

* Matters concerning a grievance, complaint or appeal will be dealt with by an independent person of the college.

Grievance Procedure

The student should speak directly with a college representative. If the grievance cannot be resolved at that stage then the student must forward a letter within 30 days to the college outlining the grievance. The college
management will respond in a prompt manner to the grievance and this response will be no later than 14 days after receiving the letter outlining the grievance.

Complaints Procedure

The student should speak directly with a college representative. If the complaint cannot be resolved at that stage then the student must forward a letter to the college outlining the complaint. A student making a complaint must
do so within 30 days. The college management will respond in a prompt manner to the complaint and this response will be no later than 14 days after receiving the complaint.

Disciplinary Procedure

The college Chief Executive Officer will determine if disciplinary action is required in relation to a student or staff member after thoroughly investigating a complaint. Any disciplinary action is subject to an appeal if the student or staff member appeals the action.

Under no circumstances will the college accept rude or unprofessional emails either by staff or students.

Assessment Appeals Process

The Chief Executive Officer will oversee any Appeals process and will make sure an independent person or body deals with the appeal. A student appealing an assessment must do so in writing within 30 days by lodging a letter with the college setting out his/her reasons for the appeals application.

The college will respond within 14 days of the outcome of the appeal. Reasons for the decision made in relation to the appeal will also be provided to the student.

Should the appeal end up being unresolved then the college will advise the student of any external assistance that may be available to assist the student such as the Department of Fair Trading or another relevant government department.

We provide and support the following services within our Code of Practice:

  • Staff responsibilities for Access and Equity issues

At the Accounting College, we have appointed our Administration Manager as student Equity Officer, the complete responsibilities are listed within the Administration Manger's Duty Statement. The position’s main objective is to ensure all staff act in accordance with our Code of Practice and all students are made aware of their rights and responsibilities.

The college is very much aware of its responsibilities in relation to Access and Equity issues. Our courses are designed for both men and women.

- We conduct our courses with full awareness that people from different cultures may attend.

- We encourage students of any age or race to partake in the course. The wealth of experience in our group activities certainly assists within these activities.

- The college will not tolerate any form of discrimination or harrasment of students and ensures that all students conduct their studies in an enjoyable atmosphere.

  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) arrangements

RPL is offered to all applicants on enrolment. All students should read and understand the following prior to seeking an exemption for Recognised Prior Learning.

The process within the college is structured to minimise time and cost to applicants. The applicant will be queried at the time of applying for RPL and advised that only MYOB basics training is permitted to be claimed as an exemption. Intermediate and Advanced levels must be undertaken unless the college considers, after review, that the applicant has the credentials in either qualifications and/or experience to satisfy a further exemption.

Applicants will be permitted to participate in the Intermediate course if they lodge correct documentation and once reviewed shows they have the relevant experience and knowledge. Applicants will also have to provide competent answers and use the MYOB software during a phone interview describing steps required on random questions asked by the assessor.

At the phone interview stage, prior to enrolment, they will be informed that they will encounter problems with the intermediate and advanced levels if they have or do not have an understanding of MYOB Basics training. A check will be made during the Intermediate course in relation to the exemption of the Basics course to ensure that basics activities are being performed correctly.

Should a student have claimed an exemption on basics training and found not to have such skills then that student will be requested to undertake and pay for the basics course and will not be permitted to continue in the program until that basics training has been completed.

Mutual Recognition Policy

The Accounting College recognises Qualifications and Statements of Attainments that are issued by other Registered Training Organisations where they are relevant to the course the student is about to undertake.

The college recognises that prior learning can be gained through a person undertaking training, on the job
experience and even life experience.

Deed of Guarantee

The directors of The Accounting College Pty Ltd have in place a personal guarantee to protect the financial viability of the college operation and this personal guarantee applies only to the college day to day trading commitments to suppliers and no other extraordinary circumstance, commitment or transaction.
